How to prepare for your wedding dress fitting

Your fitting is a unique moment in your wedding preparations. A few simple habits are all it takes to enjoy it fully and leave with a clear mind.

Book your appointment

At LOVALANCHE, fittings are by appointment only, in private, and last 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 on average. In the appointment form, you give your wedding date, your usual dress size, from UK 6 / EU 34 to UK 20 / EU 48, and the days that suit you. Our team gets back to you within 24 hours to find the perfect time.

You don’t have to know exactly what you want

You can arrive with a perfectly curated Pinterest board, or with no clear idea at all: both are a great starting point. A wedding dress fitting is nothing like an ordinary shopping trip: sizes, volumes, fabrics and emotions are anything but everyday.

See your inspirations as a visual language rather than a list of dresses to copy. Instead of only saving gowns, ask yourself what really draws you in: the line of the shoulders, a defined waist, the movement of the skirt, a certain minimalism, an old Hollywood allure, an architectural silhouette or a subtle romanticism. Understanding why an image speaks to you helps us suggest the right dresses.

Set your budget before you fall in love

Set your budget before or at the very start of your search, and think about the budget for the whole look, not just the price of the dress: alterations, veil, shoes, jewellery, hair accessories and lingerie all count. In the form, give your budget for the dress alone: we prepare a selection that suits you.

Who should you bring?

Your circle does not need to be a crowd. Ideally, we suggest two to four loved ones, and sometimes a single person is the best company of all. A small group keeps the atmosphere intimate and helps you decide calmly, without too many opinions. Larger groups are of course welcome too.

During your fittings, the voice that matters most is your own.

What to wear for your first fitting

The chicest rule is also the simplest: less is more. Choose smooth, discreet underwear in a shade close to your skin tone, little or no jewellery, a hairstyle that frees your face, shoulders and back, and clothes that are easy to take off and put back on.

Forget your usual size

Bridal sizes are often very different from those in your everyday wardrobe. Don’t let a label change how you see a dress or yourself: what matters is the cut, the proportions, the comfort, the line and how you feel.

How the appointment unfolds

Your fitting unfolds in four steps. Welcome: you share your vision of the big day. Discover: we show you silhouettes, fabrics and details selected to match your style. Try on: you slip into your favourite silhouettes to see what suits you. Say yes: you find the dress in which you truly feel yourself.

The dress you thought you would hate could become your favourite. Every dress you try teaches you something: what works on your figure, what gives you presence, what makes you stand differently in front of the mirror. Don’t try to get every fitting right, try to get to know yourself better. Convertible dresses, like Liora with its detachable sleeves or Ankora with its bolero, show two different looks in a single fitting.

A veil can change everything

A veil brings movement, depth, softness or, on the contrary, a real touch of drama. It can turn a minimalist silhouette into a show-stopping look, or reveal that a dress is in fact too demure or too busy for you. If you love a dress, ask to see it with a veil: discover our veils and accessories.

White After Dark evenings

Working during the day? Our White After Dark evenings welcome you on Mondays and Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm, for a private fitting after your day. Simply select this option in the appointment form.

After your fitting

Take time to note your impressions of each dress: what you felt matters as much as what you saw. Your dress is not necessarily the one that looks most like your inspirations, but the one in which you recognise yourself the most.
